Roots

Most of my progenitors had green thumbs. This gift hasn't been lost on me.

When I moved to a dormitory I got some plants pretty soon. These were mostly flowers at the time. However, the care for flowers was more of a hassle, than a natural movement.

The whole experience thought me that green plants and trees were more of my strength.

Branching out

Once I got my own house, the scale increased. Now I had a front and backyard to care for.

At the start my Mother got me plants, flowers and trees. Since I bought a minimum, and we planted most of the vegetation together. Caring was my primary task.

Over the years things changed, and I bought more and more myself. This even got to the point where care and maintenance got combined with landscaping. This all came natural, and there weren't to many bumps in the road.

Another venue of plants was the adoption center at IKEA. After work there often was a rack with (dying) plants, and you could pick one, or sometimes more.

During this period I made a lot of adoptions some of which are still with me today.

This gave more experience with a large variety of plants including some flowers.

During one summer I started germinating seeds, I gathered these from produce I bought in the supermarket. This was a successful endeavor and today I still have one tree that grew from those seeds. Spring 2021 I've started germinating seeds again with some succes.

Two pearls

Since fall 2021 a pearl got handed to me. After inquiring for voluntary work at the local community center, they told me they were looking for a gardener. This garden is about three blocks from my home so that was a score!
The garden needed some work, but came along quite well (:

This garden offered plenty space for personal development. Since this was the community garden there also was a social aspect. challenging, but educational, and rewarding.
Around new year 2026 corporate policy and my vision diverged, and so the pearl was temporary

More recently around summer 2023, I got involved in a recreational area in the neighborhood. This one turned forest pretty quick, here we built two balcony gardens. Unfortunately this recreational area got outsourced to an organization.
My own garden has been steadily evolving, and a new adventure has started (2026), leaving me head of tree care at the community garden of the Cultuurwerkplaats Tarwewijk.
